Greenbuilding
Ecological buildings are designed and training programmes on the peace ecovillage promote sustainable habitats. Houses are built to maximise use of all natural elements namely wind, sun, water, and earth to produce energy and food. Waste management with recycling allows for optimum use of resources.

History of Umphakatsi Peace Ecovillage
Rural Urban Migration for youth due to Unemployment has become a challenge for the South African society. The Ecovillage was set up to adress unemployment and lack of skills in sustainable development. Thus, in 2006, local community of Steynsdorp village saw a need to set up a sustainable institution to create local jobs and retain the human dignity of the youth through finding value in day to day living. The use of local resources has been the approach of the Peace Ecovillage, which has generated more than 100 jobs since inception.
